From my earliest remembrances, I have always been drawn to the oil paintings of the early Flemish masters. The glowing colors and realistic rendering of people and objects continue to amaze me. As a child, I always expected the people to step out of the paintings and speak to me. And I am awed that even after hundreds of years have passed, the themes they chose continue have relevance today.
I am currently focusing on traditional mediums and methods of these early artisans, trying to translate the beauty, richness and vibrancy exhibited their works into modern abstract and traditional representational art. Organic shapes, graceful curving lines and soft texture can be seen through out my works. It is my hope to share the wonder, the beauty and harmony of color and form that surrounds us as we go about our daily lives; the curve of a leaf, the texture in a feather or the bow of a child’s lips. Even the darkest dirtiest ally can be beautiful at times when the light strikes it just right. |
