A long time Hamilton fan no more. I am greatly disappointed to see Laurell Hamilton is now resting on her "laurels" rather than living up to her Anita Blake series' well deserved reputation. Flirt is a lack luster unfinished draft. The story is formulaic and shallow. The characters lack dimension and are undeveloped. But what I find most disappointing, is the absence of Ms. Hamilton's normally brilliant turn of phrase and the evocative imagery that make her novels a sensory treat. This "novel"...not... has a few recycled phrases from previous books and not enough plot to bury it in.
Perhaps Ms Hamilton's publication schedule has become too demanding to allow her the luxury of producing the quality work we all know she is capable of, or perhaps she has grown weary of Anita and all her trials... But if she continues to produce this sort of swill, she will discover she has a lot more time on her hands.
Please, Please Ms. Hamilton... if you need more time to do the job right than tell your publishers, agent and us to get stuffed. Believe me we will wait...(like we have a choice) But don't do this to us again.
Plot.....
Anita's ethics get her and her loved ones in hot water when she refuses to raise a couple of dearly departed loved ones for a couple of clients at Animators Inc. wealthy enough to hire thugs to get their way. That's it the entire novel....
